What is Baladarshan ?

Baladarshan is a network of South Indian social organizations involving socially marginalized women in crafts production. It was founded by social workers concerned in improving the livelihood of isolated women and children in the slums of Chennai, India.
Crafts include candles, wooden jewelery, kalamkari art, and stone carving. Almost all of the products are exported.
As member of the World Fair Trade Organization, Baladarshan:
  • Pays a fair price.
  • Creates opportunities for economically disadvantaged producers, particularly marginalized women.
  • Fights child labour.
Baladarshan works with SPEED Trust a non profit which encourages people to develop income-generating activities in order to become independent and self-sustainable.
